TIMELESS Ajayi Crowther Bicentenary

By scholarly consensus, Samuel Ajayi Crowther was born in 1809, in Osogun, a town in southwestern Nigeria. This deduction is easy to reach simply from reckoning with the Bishop’s own careful timeline in the account of his life and work supplied his official biographer, Jesse Page. Bishop Ajayi Crowther perused the proof sheets of Page’s book: “Samuel Ajayi Crowther: The Slave Boy Who Became Bishop of the Niger.” He even wrote a Foreword to the book! The book, now out of print, was published in London in 1892.

TIMELESS COURAGE PUBLISHING LIMITED, a Media Group based in Lagos, Nigeria and the publishers of TIMELESS NEWSPAPER, THE CHRISTIAN NEWS & TIMELESS BUSINESS QUARTERLY is commencing preparations to celebrate, with a series of activities, the bicentenary of the birth of the 1st Black Bishop, an all-time Role Model for Black People everywhere, and a wonder to others.

PROPOSED ACTIVITIES/PROJECTS
We are proposing the following activities in partnership and with sponsorship considerations from banks, oil companies, telecommunications companies, churches, international organisations and private companies:

1. Re-Publish copies of Samuel Ajayi Crowther: the Slave Boy Who Became Bishop of the Niger as The Ajayi Crowther Bicentennial Edition of Jesse Page’s biography.
2. Produce studio-work production of Audiobook version in MP3 format of same biography
3. Stage Command Performances of Femi Osofisan’s Play. (The Play commissioned by Pastor Eskor Mfon, late pastor of City of David Parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), titled Ajayi Crowther: The Trials and Triumphs of a Legend, written by eminent Nigerian playwright, Professor Femi Osofisan has turned out to be an outstanding piece of dramatic work. It made the Shortlist of the 2006 Nigeria Prize for Literature, endowed by NLNG. The writer upheld sound scholarship in constructing a historically robust account, yet a histrionically engaging piece.)
4. Produce My Grandfather the Bishop: Comic Series for Children, to be distributed free in primary and secondary schools with story script by award-winning Children’s writer Philip Begho, with Adeleke Adeyemi; to be based on Femi Osofisan’s Play, Jesse Page reworked biography and also Decorvet & Oladipo’s SAC: The Miracle of Grace.
5. Create downloadable files from his signature portrait & autograph: wallpapers, screensavers (for mobile phones and PCs), as well as T-Shirts and Stickers etc and polyphonic tunes based on the ‘Crowther Anthem.’ Put merchandise on online. Create lines locally as well: Ajayi Crowther-emblazoned ankara and aso-oke; fez caps, wrist-bands, mouse pads, umbrellas, pens, exercise books; Diary and other mementoes; Collector’s Edition recharge cards by telecoms companies.
6. Invite Entries for nationwide Commemorative Literary Contests for secondary school students on The Difference Ajayi Crowther Could Make in Present-day Nigeria
7. Organise a lecture: ‘The World Today: What Would Crowther Do?’ to be delivered possibly by Archbishop Peter Akinola supported by Revd. Wale Adefuye (Founding Pastor of KICC Lagos and a Crowther Scholar)
